What do you really want?

Answering this question honestly will do more to further your spiritual, personal, and professional life than many would like to admit. Yeah, we all know what we want others to believe we want. But look at your life and you will see what it is you really want. Where and how do you spend your time? Do you spend hours watching television? Then that is what you want in life. Do you spend most of your time at work trying to make more money? Then money is what you really want. It really is not hard to figure out what it is in life that we truly value.

Here is a scripture that should rock your world...

Colossians 3:1-4 -

So if you have been raised with the Messiah, seek what is above, where the Messiah is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with the Messiah in God. When the Messiah, who is your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

Paul is telling us that we really should "want" the things that only God can give. We are to set our minds on things above. This means that God himself should be our chief pursuit in life. Not what God can give, but God himself. Think about it. Why would we settle for less than knowing and being known by the creator of the heavens and the earth, God Almighty?

Paul says that we have died and our lives are hidden in Jesus. This means that the more we seek God, the more we find ourselves, but we have to look. And in the end, when Christ returns to judge the world, we will be revealed as a person who belongs to the judge. What in this world could compare with that? Why would we seek after created things when we can seek after, and find, the Creator?

If you have been frantically searching for more meaning, more satisfaction, more purpose and less fear in life your search is in vain unless it rises above the reality of this world and into the eternal. So ask yourself again, what do you really want? I want to know God.

So what exactly does a 30 year old small town pastor and doctoral student have to blog about that anyone would be interested in reading? Well, a lot. I am currently pastoring and working in a place that would probably chew up and spit out many of those who are in larger churches in larger cities. So far, for 2 years, this has been a lesson in human sin, redemption, frustration, time travel (huh?) and growing in Christ. Check back at a future date and I will elaborate further.

Just remember this, it is ALL for His glory and not mine. Not yours. Not your church. The Glory of God.
